pan y rosas discos release ricamatrici by ?alos

?alos is musician/experimental performer stefania pedretti’s solo project that began in 2003. her performances blur the lines between performance art, experimental music, improvisation, video art and force the audience to actively participate. the feminine figure and its role in history and contemporary society is at the heart of her performances.

?alos’ second album for pan y rosas is a fragmented concept album that takes its inspiration from industrialized garment production. seamstresses, women who spend their lives sewing in factories and basements – leaving their dreams and aspirations behind. sewing machine as sound creation. electronics. blindfolded piano played by instinct, touch, feeling, listening. full songs and small fragments of sound narration – alarm clock, pen, snippets of piano denote times and places – advance the narrative, the journey of a seamstress. arrival in the city via train. hopes and dreams to be crushed. departure and a new start in a new town. more now wave noise but shifting towards doom.

ricamatrici was originally released by bar la muerte records in 2009. this is the second of three ?alos reissues. get it here.

pan y rosas release prague bratislava by 900piesek and rbnx

praguebratislavacover

with his experimental/psych/noise project 900piesek, matúš mikula, searches out the relationships between chaos and linearity. he’s fascinated by clashes of anti-poles and inhumanity. he is currently a member of the czech-based collective of like-minded freaks, hluková sekce. rbnx is tobias potocny’s one man project that has been in existence since early 2001. tobias uses his self-constructed instruments rbnxtronics to create his take on improvised electronic noise composition. both mikula and potocny are from bratislava, slovakia.

prague bratislava is a split release that documents two separate improvised performances from 2012 – one by 900piesek (prague) and one by rbnx (bratislava). air fades in to reverbed nothing, raw electricity underneath. metal chimes in a cathedral. space-ominous foreshadowing. melt/pierce into grind/crunch. buzzing drone and liquid metal over rocket roar. approach the forbidden planet and fall into the sun. get it here!

pan y rosas release I by exercise

exercise is a collaboration between leonardo amico and leonardo belardinelli. leonardo amico is a laptop noise improviser with combustione & liberazione and runs the zine/music label orgonomy records. leonardo belardinelli is a former guitarist of the black metal band visceral delirium.

on their first album for pan y rosas, amico and belardinelli recorded a live improvisation session with a guitar and drums. the guitar was later removed, leaving only the drums. leonardo amico then used a laptop to process the drums live. the result is two long tracks of free drumming moving in a stream of consciousness loose narrative flow. sparse high-pitch microbeats and subtle sounds furiously torn into pieces. distorted, multi-toned, multi-layered, spun in every direction.

pan y rosas release string theory by sarah j ritch

the newness for the advent of springtime in the northern hemisphere comes from chicago composer and improviser sarah j ritch. her interest in classical composition arose from both her studies in piano and cello as well as explorations of the guitar and bass in punk and metal bands in las vegas between 1996 and 2003. she eventually landed in chicago and earned a bachelor of music from roosevelt university and a post-baccalaureate certificate in sound from the school of the art institute of chicago.

on her debut album, string theory, sarah displays her interest in both improvised noise and notated tonal music as she explores the acoustic structures of strings and sines. over the course of the album electronically treated cello gives way to droning and pizzicato violin; a pure drone at the center resolves itself with a rising and falling violin sonata; and a cello converses with itself in woodtones. get it here!

pan y rosas release follow lonely roads by last king of poland

the newest from pan y rosas is follow lonely roads by last king of poland, who describes it as a piece about alienation. using a vocal processor and a loop pedal, lkop transforms his voice and the feedback generated within the recording space into machine drone loops that give way to echo chamber chorus and lonely droid bird cries. throughout the piece satellites return from deep space in search of communion; pulsing swirls throb and fade; and low tone monastery ambiance counts the ebb and flow of breaths. check it out here.

pan y rosas release weeping, by last king of poland

pan y rosas is happy to present weeping, the newest work from experimental/noise artist last king of poland. it’s a two track, half hour work of release recorded after hours in the fantastic acoustic environment of a racquetball court. tomasz used two vocal contact mics to capture the sound vibrations of his voice and body and run them through a series of pedals and oscillators. the result is a minimal world of motion where raw electricity buzzes and howls, feedback hums and drones and tension fills the silences. check it out here.

pan y rosas release last king of poland – hymn

hey everyone! we at pyr are excited to release an album from right here in chicago – hymn by last king of poland, aka tomasz jurczak.

tomasz began making music within the 8-bit/chiptune genre before moving into the world of harsh noise and ambient in 2007. he primarily uses a large pedalboard to manipulate feedback and voice as well as various noisemakers and synths. he tries to create a noise music that produces an emotional response in contrast to what he feels is the modern paradigm of drinking beer and turning a knob.

to this end his new album hymn is a quiet piece of time-lag minimalism for voice and two pedals. pulsing tones that drift in and out of phase and noises that float over drones of wordless vocalizations. meditative, introspective, and pretty. challenging without damaging your ears. get it here.
