composer, performer and writer elbio barilari was born in montevideo, uruguay. he studied in his own country as well as in brazil and germany, and moved to the us in 1998. barilari’s music has been performed by the chicago sinfonietta, orquesta filarmónica de montevideo, orquesta de la radio y televisión de españa, colorado symphony, grant park festival orchestra, chicago sinfonietta chamber ensemble, ravinia festival, civic orchestra of chicago, chicago children’s choir, lyric opera orchestra, chicago arts orchestra, and baroque band, among others. he is also a member of the experimental group, volcano radar.

pianist/composer/businessman andy cohn has dedicated over 20 years of his life to the development of the very unique world music store – andy’s music chicago. back in the 70’s and 80’s andy played with different rock bands. later he developed a strong interest in world music as well us experimental and creative music. for several years he has been hosting historical jam-sessions at his warehouse. for the last six years andy and elbio have been playing together in different contexts, such the diásporas project a work-in-progress that they are composing together.

fluid timescape came from one session of a long term project which began over six years ago at the mythical andy’s warehouse, a 4,000 square foot facility in which collector and pianist/composer andy cohn lodges his more than 3,000 instruments from all over the world. many of the most gifted jazz and world music players from chicago or visiting the city have sat in at those famous jam-sessions, mostly on fridays. in this case it was a duo session, with elbio playing a vintage jp-8000 roland synthesizer and andy playing a steinway piano, a yamaha cp-70m electric piano and roland juno-d syntheziser. the video was made by german dj tobías bassline, from munich.
