heavy lifting (lucy cheesman) has been playing live coded music using TidalCycles and FoxDot since 2016.

heavy lifting’s first album on pan y rosas, mortal springs, is loosely based on the myths surrounding demeter and persephone. the songs on the album were edited down from a live-coded improvisation using TidalCycles – a language used to describe & generate patterns. you will hear: synth & drum sounds, sample collages, and a small amount of vocals thrown in for good measure.

pan y rosas release UN by bella!

bella is a brazilian artist and musician who lives in são paulo. she attempts to erase the boundaries between sound and space with performances focused on the imperceptible movements of reality. her work is frequently interdisciplinary and collaborative.

UN is a document of a live performance from february of 2017. the sound is: water vibrates, reflected by a light. drawing image-sound contours. creating a live painting formed by sound, water and light. the interface between science and art.

pan y rosas release H2RI by anna xambó!

anna xambó is a researcher and musician with a background in computer science engineering, digital humanities and digital arts. she completed her phd in 2015 (the open university), specializing in music computing and HCI, and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the centre for digital music (queen mary university of london).

her musical practice includes live coding, multichannel spatialization, tangible music, collaborative interfaces, audience participation with mobile devices, and real-time music information retrieval. she has performed internationally and works actively in the music tech and experimental electronic music scene, as a co-founder of the online music records carpal tunnel in barcelona (spain), co-founder of women in music tech at georgia tech (usa), and co-organizer of international concerts.

H2RI is an instance of a generative album created by anna xambó in 2018. the 20 tracks of 1′ each have been generated using her self-built tool MIRLC, a library for using music information retrieval techniques in live coding. a basic rule has shaped the audio sources of the album: to only use of short sounds from the crowd-sourced, online, sound database freesound. each track is complemented with the code in SuperCollider and the attribution to the authors of the original sounds.

pan y rosas release oblivion by nhung nguyen!

nhung nguyen is an experimental musician and sound artist who has been composing and playing experimental music since 2011. under her own name or the alias, sound awakener, she has been creating sonic waves in hanoi’s underground music scene for the past few years. where the sound awakener project focuses on abstract experimental sounds, releases under the name nhung nguyen tend toward melodic, cinematic material.

oblivion is a composition for contact mics, radio and electronics. during the composition and recording process of this work, nhung nguyen explored the use of found objects, field recordings and electronic processing and linked them with the lost times, abandoned memories and forgotten places. the results are an abstract atmosphere – simultaneously calm, meditative, chaotic and noisy.

pan y rosas release REMISE EN BOUCHE by lola de la mata

lola de la mata (b.1991) is a london based artist, musician, and composer whose practice focuses around the body, collaboration and listening. lola’s work ranges from monotypes and graphic scores, to installations and compositions for movement, voice, electronics and classical instruments.

lola is the organiser behind the interdisciplinary artist group ‘parallel praxis’, which seeks to support and develop process and individual practice, to provide a wider network, and promote collaboration.

REMISE EN BOUCHE, which translates as palate cleanser, or in the mouth, is both an act of refreshment for the ears, and a commentary on the misogyny women experience in the creative industries.

the album combines field recordings, classical rifts, untrained voice, violin, and transformed feedback noise. the layers co exist, tangle, overlap, to form a textured sonic world, full of movement, with sounds appearing and receding into dark voids.

everything you hear in this album was generated acoustically either with instrumentation or concrete sound sources.

pan y rosas release abc dobrego wychowania by zheimeer!

the most important members of zheimeer are electronic musical instruments and devices (a sampler, a sequencer, a synthesizer, etc.); their creative expression is possible thanks to the help of the only representative of humanity in the group, adrian zalewski, who also coordinates their actions and looks after them during concerts.

abc dobrego wychowania is zheimeer’s second album. it was recorded in 2011 in collaboration with chuck roop who came up with the concept of using irena gumowska’s ABC dobrego wychowania and appears in the role of a reader. the goal is to popularize irena gumowska’s texts from a book of the same name.

isabel nogueira is a performer-composer, musicologist and professor from brasil who conducts research in music, gender, the body, and sound creation. she uses voice, synths, field recordings and electronic devices to make experimental music, noise and sound art. isabel is a member of the medula collective for experimental sounds.

isabel recorded her first album for pan y rosas, hybrid, in april of 2017 in porto alegre with: voice, synthesizers, piano, samples, and recordings. in her words: hybrid voices. hybrid women. constructed and nomade. inner things, outside things happening at the same time, not specifically related. a dance between memory and imagination. nomade voices. cyberorishas. sonic storm.

pan y rosas release hasta mañana al día siguiente by ana maría romano g.

ana maría romano g. is a musician / sound artist and professor from bogotá, colombia. she teaches in formal and informal spaces and at all levels from small children to university students and is currently a professor at the universidad el bosque. she is the director of the festival en tiempo real – space dedicated to artistic manifestations that involve a dialogue between sound and the use of technologies. she is a general co-coordinator of microcircuitos plataforma digital regional. she shares her artistic and teaching work at concerts, lectures and workshops.

her creative interests have led her to work with both acoustic and electroacoustic methods as well as participate in multidisciplinary projects such as contemporary dance, videodance and performance. she also collaborates with artists from colombia and elsewhere in the world of improvisational and interdisciplinary music.

her first album for pan y rosas consists of five pieces created between 2009 and 2016. reactions to current events. accordion. multiple channels and media. voices. rain. transport.

asha tamirisa is an experimental media artist most interested in audiovisual composition, instruments and interfaces, and gender/race and technology. she is a founding member of OPENSIGNAL, a group of artists concerned with the state of gender and race within electronic / computer based art practices. she holds a b.a. from oberlin college and is currently a doctoral student in the multimedia and electronic music experiments [ MEME ] program at brown university.

asha’s first album for pan y rosas, callus / redux, consists of two longer pieces that she created in august of 2016 using an arp2500, a few various synths and field recordings that she recorded in july of 2015. the sound is slow, patient, shifting drones, sculpted water.
