an older release just got a nice review over at fungus cerebri.

Lali Barriere, Miguel A. García, Tomás Gris – “Chamber Music” (Pan y rosas discos, 2011)

the newest from pan y rosas is follow lonely roads by last king of poland, who describes it as a piece about alienation. using a vocal processor and a loop pedal, lkop transforms his voice and the feedback generated within the recording space into machine drone loops that give way to echo chamber chorus and lonely droid bird cries. throughout the piece satellites return from deep space in search of communion; pulsing swirls throb and fade; and low tone monastery ambiance counts the ebb and flow of breaths. check it out here.

the niceness comes from the reigns the chaos blog.

Argentine, Ada Rave, has produced an exciting and enterprising debut with La Continuidad (Pan Y Rosas Discos). A bright collection of avant garde/free jazz and bop that is reminiscent to Anthony Braxton, Ornette Coleman and even a little bit John Zorn. For a modern correlation, you might imagine is a calmer, Ingrid Laubrock. Ada delivers a maximum punch on sax but she also possesses a nice shifting array of themes with her quartet’s debut.

La Continuidad is an impressive debut from the wildly talented Ada Rave and her quartet. A brilliant combination of abstract expressionism and fluid modernism. Excellent.

hey everyone, new for february is florida = death’s tape made of tapes. florida = death is an enigmatic and cryptic band from connecticut that originally formed in 2005. the lineup has changed over the past few years they are currently a trio that play in the post-information stylee.

their first album for pan y rosas is a reissue of a tape that they sold at their shows once upon a time. tape made of tapes is a compilation of unreleased demos and live tracks reassembled into an aural collage. a document of the band at a particular point in time. although there is a tracklist – it acts more as a loose guide than a hard and fast truth. the songs and fragments are constructed in such a way that they become a new experience altogether, suggesting a sort of narrative. the sound constantly shifts between psych, weirdo, out rock, drone dirge, noise experiments, and post-info beats before solidifying into an amalgamation of all its parts. as always, make sure to get this one here!

the first newness of 2012 is from tomas gris a free improviser based in madrid who is working on developing a sound language that combines his love of dada, art brut, and the cobra art movement with his interest in philosophy, semiotics and post-modernism. he performs alone and with ad hoc ensembles primarily playing reeds and amplified objects, but also incorporating various percussion and acoustic instruments into his pieces.

his first album for pan y rosas is a solo improvisation recorded in 2011 in which he plays alto saxophone, harps, cassette, and objects. throughout the piece he employs quietness and stillness; flutters, pops and breaths; cymbals and tones. his playing is deliberate and of the moment, without beginning or end. make sure to get it here.
