Impulsive Hearts is Danielle Sines. She sings, shouts, plays guitar and synth, and records noises on tape recorders. She likes melodies that remind her of summertime. Impulsive Hearts pick up where recent revivalist acts like Dum Dum Girls and Best Coast have left off, adding just a hint of indelible Midwestern sadness to the neo-girl group garage rock sound. On Cry All The Time, the band’s second LP, the surf-rock group delves into darker themes of love and loss, while maintaining bright, fierce and catchy-as-hell songwriting. Danielle is joined by Fallon McDermott on saxophone, keys and vocals; and Amanda Kraus on percussion. For fans of Best Coast, The Pretenders, Beach House, Alvvays, The Beach Boys, The Smiths, Dum Dum Girls, Bully and you.

cinchel is a Chicago based musician working with guitar, effects and laptop to create abstract ambient music that is both minimal and dense. His main focus has been the interaction of sounds/notes with themselves. With only the use of delay, layering and distortion he attempts to make a lot of guitars no longer sound like guitars. For that reason, he likes to call this – minimal dense music.

pan y rosas release flying with dry leaves by orlando

Orlando is a musician from Campina Grande, a country town in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. He has been involved with activities related to popular music since 1995 when he began his career as an upright bassist.

In his new album, Flying With Dry Leaves, Orlando, in partnership with MakinaGuru (his notebook), takes a trip through the electric and upright bass and its multitude of sounds. Through poetic, free, open, and improvised expressions he seeks to take new paths to express his hope for clearer and freer days. There are four tracks that explore electronic textures and the sounds of daily life in times of seemingly eternal quarantine. Flying With Dry Leaves pays homage to those who are gone and the endless ways that life moves on, always moving forward. Orlando’s music is concerned with cultivating the beauty that exists in continuing to imagine days in which a better world is possible.

pan y rosas release drop shadow on airport runway by nicolas tourney!

Nicolas Tourney is a French experimental musician, sound designer, and owner of the label Snow in Water Records. His electronic works concern perception and act of listening, with the use of various strings, drones and noise-making devices.

His new album was inspired by the heatwave evenings of June 2018, in the south of France, when the heat made sleep impossible. The music is constructed like a soundtrack for a film where the narrative is generated directly by public cameras at airports. Timbres, intensities, pitches and rhythms offer a perceptual immersion, guided by microphones, that opens us to our habits and our dreams.

This musical piece was originally presented during the JeffersonParkExp 2020. You can see the live performance here: https://vimeo.com/480151771

Jenna Boyles aka Jenna Junk is an interdisciplinary artist and human magnet for things no one else wants. Joyfully defying landfills, she gleans sound from inherited and collected objects labeled “trash” and “obsolete.” Devoted to the concept of waste as memory – a form of storing and recalling past information – she brings attention to the potential within discarded material. Rewiring old electronics and embedding soft e-textiles into her installations and wearables, her work articulates the ubiquity and resonance of unwanted things while playing on the sensitivity between squishy-bodies and hard-wired machines. Currently she is in Pittsburgh, PA reviving the house that she inherited from her grandma Helen.

Boyles received her BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2012 and MFA in Art and Technology Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2018. Her costumes and illuminated objects have appeared in parades and forests, on rivers and beaches. She has performed at the Experimental Sound Studio in Chicago IL; Area 405 and the 14Karat Cabaret in Baltimore, MD. She participated in the Tough Art Residency at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and was the inaugural artist in residence at Port Discovery Children’s Museum in Baltimore, MD. Recently, Boyles was a New Media Artist in residence at Mana Contemporary Chicago. She currently teaches at Columbia College Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Bleak House produce crumbly, autumnal library music; flickering guitars, stumbling piano, mournful horns, and pattering percussion. Formed in 2001 by British musicians Luke Sample, Andy Brain, and Caroline Vile, who are also involved in other bands (e.g. Keshco, Vile Brain Samples), the Bleak House palette is distinctly sepia-tinged.

Their first album, Music From The Middle Room was released by Silent Flow in 2011; a follow-up, Outwardly was released by Pan y Rosas Discos in 2019. They are working on a new EP, and also a retrospective of unreleased early recordings.

For this performance recorded earlier in the week, they tried collaborating via a telephone link-up, and also recording separately, in their Bleak Houses.

The group will present their piece drive in 4 trees. About which they write: WHAT is the space? WHERE is the space? HOW does the music language transforms and expresses itself?

Being far away from each other in a totally different environment, sitting between the corners or imagining corners inside, we began to explore the space below and above the things that surround us. We found out that the distance does not exist and the space constantly breathes, changing the shape.

In each of our conversations we were bringing something new to the piece, that came out of the absorption of the occurred situation. We were exploring the „environment“ of each other and expanding the borders of the music language. The video as well as the audio issues are turned into inspiration and become part of the „game“. What you see and hear is a very complex piece, where improvisation and composition are going strongly together.

Noisebringers were created by mistake. (“There are no mistakes, only happy accidents.” ― Bob Ross) A large and loving family consisting of Brice Catherin (your friendly elderly cellist next door), Henry McPherson (pianist and meme artist), and Maria Sappho (pianist and non-composer). Says Sappho, “We can not tell you what we have to offer, as this is an improvisational concert. If you are unsure of what an improvisational concert might be, be assured you are asking the right questions.”

They will present a film ritual: Tente, the mushroom that the crocodile ate, that they created with Afulodidim Nikefolosi (a figure in answer to the challenge: show me a contemporary mixture of Amos Tutuola and Zora Neale Hurston.)

She is a lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland.

Her first album on pan y rosas, Being Time, explores an obsession with time and the temporality of sound and experience. Time perceived simultaneously as experiential and retrospective. Time around us, time within us. Listening and being as a temporal experience. A constant flow of now through stillness and trajectory. Electroacoustic, noise, sometimes harmonic. A variety of instruments and sound sources. The voice.

Kimberly A. Sutton is a sound artist, cellist, and sound designer living in Chicago, Illinois. Her installations and sound design work explore the connections between the physical properties of sound and the cultural signifiers of its content. As a cellist her practice is improvisatory and explores the possibilities of expression and reflection through sound and the immediacy of a meditational connection to her instrument.

Recent installations have been shown at ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the Chicago Home Theater Festival. She has performed at Experimental Sound Studio, the Hideout and the Empty Bottle in Chicago, Yoshi’s in Oakland, Detroit Contemporary, and the Technosonics Festival at the University of Virginia.
